Planning storyboard for Music Video

Image
We wanted our first scene to be an establishing shot of the park. The park is where we are going to film our first couple of scenes. The establishing shot is meant to set the mood  since parks are usually exciting and fun. We want to be clear that is the mood of our music video. We now move to the next scene, which is of us having a picnic. The whole theme of our music video is friendship. We wanted the video to show two typical friends in western society not having to worry about race. Now done with the picnic, we head back to my house. While walking down the street we wanted the camera to be in POV. In Jackson's video for Black or White, there is a scene where he dances in the street. We want to duplicate that scene, safely of course. Again giving off that feeling as if we have no care in the world. Back home, we have a little dance session. Suzie and I's favorite game to play is Just Dance. So we of course had to add it to our music video. Jamming on to, of course, Michael J...

Planning for my Music Video

Image
Song Title: Black or White, Michael Jackson  Props: The location of our music video will be a park, located one block away from my house. Anything that we use at the park will be considered our props. Whether this is a set of swings, a park bench, or any other interesting things we find at the park. The vibe of the music video will be very casual and realistic but meaningful. Also, a picnic basket, lipgloss, and blush.  Costumes: The music video will be fairly simple and not as flashy. We most likely will wear what we do on a daily basis. My usual style is a pair of baggy jeans with a t-shirt and some all-white shoes. Suzie's style is more on the streetwear side. Oversized t-shirts with biker shorts and some cool sneakers. For the project, we don't have a specific outfit but it will be definitely be something casual. Jackson's song was made in the '90s and we considered basing our style like that for the video. However, we wanted the meaning of the video to be the mos...

Research blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
The song that we chose was Black or White by Michael Jackson. Jackson stated he wrote this song to share his experiences of being a black man in today's society. Also his experiences with racism in the industry and real world. He knew that music was a great way to express yourself. That's why he wrote a whole song dedicated to the issue, so the message could be easily heard. His plan worked and that song was on the top charts. The song stayed on the charts for seven weeks and now is one of Jackson's most popular songs. This song leads to many controversies because of its meaning. Back then and still today people are being judged and discriminated against for the color of their skin. Equality has not been achieved and we don't know when it will be. Jackson's song not only has a great meaning but was also lyrically amazing. Conventions: The genre of the song is pop. Being considered the King of Pop, Michaels music videos have become the backbone of pop. Some common ...

Introduction to the Music Video Project

Image
Introduction: For this project, I will be working with my fellow friend, Suzie Louis. I chose to work with this person because we have known each other for 5 years. We are very close and I know she does her work on time and is very responsible. She lives 5 minutes away from me so we can come over any time to complete our project. Also, we share interests in music and have a passion for it. We love all genres of music. Her favorite genre is rap and mine is alternative music. However, we love the 2000's music and classics. The song we decided to chose for our music video is Black or White by Michael Jackson. We chose this song because it tells the story that race is not a factor in friendships, relationships, and overall society. We all should be treated equally and racism is still a huge factor in today's society. Black men and women have been dealing with it for centuries and especially now, with current events. Suzie and I have an interracial friendship and we strongly believ...

Critical Reflection Questions

Image
 1. My product challenges convections because although it has the typical aspects of a beauty commercial. I feel like many lack real confidence when using products in commercials, it can look fake. Personally, the product I chose suits me very well and I feel so confident wearing it. I think I portrayed that in my commercial. My product represents the beauty community. There are still people out there opposed to the fact of men wearing makeup and it should be normalized. No one ever said makeup was only meant for women. Both genders have grown to become very successful in the community and are now influencers and have their own brands.  2. My product engages with the audience because I show them the aspects of the product. Ultimately, what that is doing is making them decide whether it would be worth purchasing the product themselves. Like I mentioned previously, I show confidence when wearing the product, which might encourage the audience to purchase the product. My product ...

Lip-gloss Commercial Blog

Image
Youtube Link:  https://youtu.be/m8puPEq23A4     My overall experience with this commercial project was great. I really love the product I chose, I use it often and think its a great lip-gloss. When it comes to production, I enjoyed the way I filmed my project and edited it. I think it really represents who I am and the passion I have for makeup and beauty. The filming was pretty smooth and enjoyable. Editing was also fun, after I figured out home to do transitions and how to make my commercial the right length. I wish I would have incorporated all the aspects that I had on my storyboard and in my head into my commercial. However, I had limited time and wasn't able to fully create the commercial I wanted to. However, I am still very proud of what I created and think it's really close to what I intended it to be. My other concern is that I wish there were more details provided on the requirements of the project. I wasn't aware of many things but luckily I still w...

Lip-Gloss Editing Blog

Image
Before: Once I finished filming and made sure I had all my scenes and looked back at them to make sure I was happy with them. I also deleted any extra videos saved in my camera roll that was not going to be used. Now, I started my editing process. During: During my editing process I officially sat down and began working on my commercial. The editing software that I used was Cute Cut Pro. I added the first scene of my commercial and cut up any extra time. Then, I added the next scene and made sure that the transition was clean and not choppy. I noticed that already with my first two scenes, my commercial was already 14 seconds. I felt like I needed to cut it up more. I tried to make it so each scene added up to 5 seconds. Once I finished adding my other scenes I added the rest of my scenes and again made sure they transitioned smoothly. Each time I made some progress in my commercial, I went back and viewed how it looked all together. Now I added the text to my commercial and mov...

Lip-gloss Filming Blog

Image
Before: The first thing I did before beginning my filming process was getting everything set up. I got out all my props ready and set them where they needed to be. I also got myself ready, put on my makeup, and a simple white shirt. During: Now that everything was set-up I began filming. After each scene, I looked back at the video and made sure I was happy with it. If, not I reset my props and filmed it once more. I did this until I got the perfect scene. When it came to filming myself in the mirror, I realized it was very difficult to film myself without having the camera in the mirror. I tried many different angles until I was satisfied and felt like you could see me clearly. I also realized how important lighting is. There were some times where the lighting shifted and had to wait until the sun came out again through my window.  When it came to filming a close up of the lipgloss on myself, it was also hard to get a right angle. Once I did, getting the camera in the right posit...
