Title Research: Buried

Image
The first scene starts with the production company, which is Versus Entertainment. They then show the other companies that are associated with the production. Showing the director and producers and then the main actor. During the entire scene, the sequence kept going down. Since the title is called Buried. They make it so the words keep sinking. The images really have a nice connotation because it ties in with the title. The music gets louder and louder as the word begins to appear showing the rest of the cast. They use transitions to make the letters fade in. The background is just dirt as it gets deeper and deeper into the ground. The strategies used for the target audience are to keep them on their toes. They continue to show the producers and editing. After the background becomes fully pitch black and the music speeds up. The technology used is creative and unique. Instead of a traditional opening scene, they make a cool background and use cool designs to ...

Title Research: Outbreak

Image
The starting scene begins with a bomb exploding. Next, come the names of the actors. All the names are in the middle of the screen and appear only a few seconds after each other. Unlike other movies, the names of the actors are prioritized over the name of the producers. Then, the main title is revealed. The title is larger and appears in with a fade transition. The connotation of these images is very fast. There are a lot of things happening in the background and the titles are moving rapidly. It's a very fast pace which fits well with the thriller genre. It keeps you on your toes. The background transitions from the battlefield to a laboratory. Making the audience confused but also intrigued. At the bottom of the screen, they display definitions of biological levels. The camera angles used are following the characters around and filmed in low angles. After they begin to show the casting team and costume team. Followed by the editors and producers. The background still se...

Title Research: Panic Room

Image
The first scene opens up with Columbia Pictures, the production company of the movie which seems to be owned by Sony. The first title displayed is Columbia again. After it shows the names of producers and main people involved with the movie. After comes the title of the movie, which is shown a little longer than the rest. The sound also got louder when it was displayed on the screen. The connotations that the images carry give the audience a sense of what the movie will be about. The background was what seemed to be a city. These large titles gave a 3D feel as well as an overwhelming feel as well. Since the titles were placed above the large buildings it gave a sense of power. As well as intensity, since the music kept getting louder and louder as it went on. The strategies used really made it seem like the audience are about to watch a thriller movie. The background buildings seemed empty yet full of mystery. The titles added to the intensity. Almost all the ...

Title Research: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Image
The opening sequence, it includes an introduction to the writers and cast. The title includes the characters in the more, the screenplay writes, executive producers, etc.) It starts off simple and tries not to take too much attention away from the actual clips. The opening sequence takes on the characteristics of the movie. The stars and stripes in the background, and characters moving around, it gives a more simplistic view of the movie. In the opening sequence, you can almost see the heroes battling it out just like they will in the actual movie. These images give a preview of what to expect in the movie. You see the Winter Soldier who is going to be the Antagonist. Fighting against the other side of what seems to be the heroes, Captin America, Black Widow, and Falcon. This gives a simple yet descriptive intro to the movie. I think it shows how thrilling the movie is going to be. It keeps the viewers in their seats wondering what's going to happen. As it p...

Title Research: Watch the Titles Website

Image
While on this website we searched for feature films. The website offered a collection of Hollywood's most indigenous main titles created. It was really exciting reading about how all these titles came to be. Also, all the work that went behind them all. It goes to show how the production of movies is so detailed and intricate. Companies plan out everything to make sure it's perfect. To get some more inspiration we looked at where they showed student projects. We really enjoyed seeing them and couldn't believe students were the ones who made them. Really makes us want to work harder to make a really good title sequence for our final task. Like mentioned, our goal is to make a title sequence that really fits well with our concept.  https://www.watchthetitles.com/collection/film/

Title Research: Art of the Title Website

Image
While researching the website we looked at the best title sequences of 2020. We wanted to get some inspiration for our opening scene title. While researching we saw many opening title scenes that were very fascinating. They just fit so well with the genre and concept of each movie. We realized our title has to be a perfect match for our concept. Aswell as eyecatching and well-made. Since the genre of our film is a thriller. The title sequence has to fit the elements of a typical thriller sequence. Meaning low-light, eerie sounds in the background, and the title must be dark but still readable. However, the main goal is for it to represent the concept of our film.  https://www.artofthetitle.com

Genre Research: 47 Meters Down

Image
In this 2017 thriller, two young sisters decide to go on a vacation to Mexico. Kate and Lisa decide to take a dive in shark-infested waters. Lisa seems to be more hesitant about the decision since the place seems to be a bit sketchy. Once on the boat, the sisters head into their cage and meet some Great White sharks. Unfortunately, the cage breaks away from the boat and the sisters are now stuck underwater with only themselves and some hungry sharks. They only have a short supply of oxygen and limited time. The lack of oxygen starts to mess with their heads and it ends with only one sister alive. Elements our pitch and movie have:  Both our final task and the movie share the element of surprise. The mother had no idea her best friend would end up killing her, how could she? It ends in her demise just like one of the sisters in 47 meters down. The sisters were probably surprised that the cage broke from the boat. Also surprised about how long they were und...

Genre Research: Get Out

Image
In this 2017 thriller, Chris and his girlfriend head upstate to meet her parents. They were an interracial couple and he was nervous about meeting them for the first time. Once there, he noticed that they have many workers. However, all of them were black. They almost acted like robots and were so perfect. Chris picked up on a few things but wasn't that suspicious. He did notice the family was almost too friendly it was unsettling. Things began to make Chris really suspicious, his girlfriend revealed that the only reason he was there is to put him in a trance called The Sunken Place. Where black people are manipulated into working for white people. Chris survived but he will never be the same. Elements our pitch and movie have: In our final task, the mom has no idea that her best friend and godmother of her child felt this way towards her. The mom trusted her so much but the godmother only had bad intentions. Just like in the movie, Get Out, Chris thought he could ...

Genre Research: The Call

Image
The Call is a thriller film that came out in 2013. A 911 operator, Jordan gets a regular call from a girl who seems to be in danger. She seems to be home alone and there is an intruder in the house. She calls 911 and Jordan picks up. While in the house the intruder seems to get closer so the girl hides under a bed. Unfortunately, she accidentally hangs up the phone. Jordan calls her back and reveals the girl's location. Unfortunately, it ends with her demise and Jordan gets fired. Later on, Jordan gets a call from a girl who is kidnapped and is inside the man's car. Jordan takes action to try and save her life making it her only goal at the moment. Elements our pitch and movie have: Our pitch is also involved with crime. The godmother murders the best friend but the police don't know that yet and she gets away with it. The mother and Jordan both make really life-threatening mistakes. In our film, the mother makes the huge mistake of making her best friend the godmother. O...

Genre Decision Blog

Image
We decided that our opening scene for our film will be a thriller. We think thriller is the best genre that fits with our pitch. Our pitch again is a mother tries to make her best friend a godmother but it all backfires in her demise since the concept is dark and suspenseful. After doing our research we thought it would fit best over drama. As much as drama would also fit well, the concept is a bit darker. It involves death and mystery. Drama is the more lighthearted version of a thriller. Thriller is involved more with the mystery behind certain events. Such as the death of the mother and how it came to be. A lot of questions will be raised. Why? What? and How? Our goal is to have our audience on edge and not expecting what is going to happen next. The audience is most likely going to feel the same emotions as the protagonist. She had no idea her best friend has these feelings towards her and her son. She will most likely regret making her the godmother but it will be too l...

Genre Research: Thriller & Comedy

Image
Thriller:  Common CAMS: The most common types of angles in thriller movies are high angles. They use these types of angles to make either the antagonist or protagonist feel powerless. Looking down on someone gives the illusion of someone who is in a vulnerable state. A common movement in thriller movies is tilted. This movement adds tension to the film. Common CLAMPS: A common type of camera lighting is low-key lighting. It adds mystery and suspense to the movie. Too much lighting or lots of lighting is usually seen in happy films. This would be the opposite.  Common Editing: Parallel editing is commonly seen to add tension and suspense.  Example Films: Some example films would be The Invisible Man, 47 Meters Down, and Arrival. Common Sound: Common sound in thriller moves is eerie and dark sounds. This adds suspense up until the climax. Elements I like: I like the fact that these movies have lots of plot twists that keep you on your toes.  Elements I don't like: So...

Genre Research: Horror

This is an embedded Microsoft Office presentation, powered by Office .    For this PowerPoint, I chose to do research on the horror genre. My favorite movies have always been horror movies. In the first slides, I showed common lighting, camera angles, and movements. The base of any good horror movie. Typically the lighting is always low and is emphasized on the antagonist. In the fourth slide, I showed common Mise-En-Scene. The most creative part of any movie in general. The most exciting part to me is the costumes and makeup.  It really makes or breaks any horror movie. This is because if the villain/monster doesn't really look very scary it won't serve the purpose of fearing people when watching it. After I talked about the elements, common parts seen in horror movies. The most important element in horror movies is the element of surprise. This keeps the audience on their toes and adds suspense, not knowing what will happen next. In the next two ...

Our Pitch

Image
Pitch 1: A couple fosters a child only for the financial benefits, they murder the child and try to get away with it.  Pitch 2: A mother tries to make her best friend a godmother but it all backfires in her demise.   Our ultimate goal was for the genre of the film to be suspense/thriller. We thought it through and these were the two ideas that we thought were the best. In the first pitch, we loved the concept because it is very realistic. Also easy for the audience to picture because unfortunately, these things do happen in real life. We know how cruel the foster care system can be and we wanted to show the dangers of it. However, we don't plan on having many people in our movie. We also don't have a male friend or family member that could play the role of a foster father. We understand that we could have used two females for a couple. However, we wanted to do a nuclear family as it is seen more often in foster families. For the second pitch, we like the idea becau...

Starting the Final Task

Image
My name is Fatima Faya and I am 17 years old. I attend Fort Lauderdale High School. Currently a Junior with only a couple months left in the year. So far I've loved being in this Media Studies class. I have learned so many things about creating projects. However, my favorite thing has been learning about marketing. Especially how companies collaborate to benefit both parties. Cross-promotion was a really interesting topic to learn about and all the examples we were given. Really excited for Senior year but also nervous because Covid is still clearly a big problem. As much as I wanna go back to physical school to see friends, safety always should come first. Hopefully, we are all vaccinated by August and we can go back to school safely. Being in physical school is important because most of us are lacking social interaction. For this final task project, I will be working with my best friend and former project worker, Suzie Louis. We worked on the commercial project and had a ...
