Genre Research: Get Out
In this 2017 thriller, Chris and his girlfriend head upstate to meet her parents. They were an interracial couple and he was nervous about meeting them for the first time. Once there, he noticed that they have many workers. However, all of them were black. They almost acted like robots and were so perfect. Chris picked up on a few things but wasn't that suspicious. He did notice the family was almost too friendly it was unsettling. Things began to make Chris really suspicious, his girlfriend revealed that the only reason he was there is to put him in a trance called The Sunken Place. Where black people are manipulated into working for white people. Chris survived but he will never be the same.
Elements our pitch and movie have: In our final task, the mom has no idea that her best friend and godmother of her child felt this way towards her. The mom trusted her so much but the godmother only had bad intentions. Just like in the movie, Get Out, Chris thought he could trust his girlfriend but all she wanted to do was get him there so they could manipulate him into making him a "slave."
Elements I like: I like the fact that this movie shows how you should never trust anybody. People put up fake personas to try to manipulate others. Also, it's important to realize you should always follow your gut. I like the fact the entire movie is a plot twist. Since the girlfriend seemed to be the true evil of the movie.
Elements I don't like: I feel as though this movie portrayed Chris as a very vulnerable person. Where they should have portrayed him as someone who has just been betrayed. He had no idea his girlfriend and her family would end up being some lunatics, he was just a victim of their evil plans.
