Research Blog: Commercial Conventions

 Product: The product I will be using for my commercial is an Anastasia Beverly Hills tinted lip gloss. Makeup has always played an important role for many people, no matter their race, gender, or skill. It allows people to express themselves creatively, there are no limits. Playing around with makeup and creating new looks, not only is entertaining but allows people to use their imagination. It doesn't matter if you're a makeup artist or someone who just started experimenting with products, there are so many things you can do. Makeup also builds self-confidence. Many women and men get bashed for wearing makeup because it's "unnatural" however, it shouldn't matter what others think. If you look good, you feel good and that's all that matters. 



Conventions: My product is related to not only beauty but creativity. Women and men who love to feel confident would enjoy this product. The color is a beautiful creamy nude that looks great on all skin tones. Common conventions you would see on a lipgloss commercial is a variety of different people wearing the lipgloss to let the audience know if it would also look good on them. As well as the properties it contains; for example, if the product is waterproof and smudge-resistant. Those looking for these specific elements would be more intrigued on buying the product. You would also see those wearing the product to be all confident and happy with themselves. Showing the audience that they too will feel confident when putting on the lipgloss. When seeing makeup commercials, the background is usually always simple and clean to aid the focus on the product you are trying to sell. It would also be beneficial to make sure the model is using light makeup around the eyes to ensure the lips are standing out above all. This technique would be used depending on what product you are trying to sell, vise versa if you're trying to sell an eyeshadow product. The most important element is to let the audience know that makeup was not made to cover up flaws but to enhance the beauty you already have.

  Before: Once I finished filming and made sure I had all my scenes and looked back at them to make sure I was happy with them. I also deleted any extra videos saved in my camera roll that was not going to be used. Now, I started my editing process. During: During my editing process I officially sat down and began working on my commercial. The editing software that I used was Cute Cut Pro. I added the first scene of my commercial and cut up any extra time. Then, I added the next scene and made sure that the transition was clean and not choppy. Editing Blog for my Music Video

 Before: Now that my partner and I finished filming all our scenes we began editing. At this point, we had realized the mistake that we had made. We forgot that we needed to film our video horizontally and not vertically. We couldn't go back and retake the scenes because it was already dark outside.  During: When I was younger I would make random edits of my favorite celebrities and influencers. Because of this I already had some minor experience with using editing software. I did most of the editing but my partner was the creative director behind it. The first part was picking a good part of the song to use for our music video. I went on Youtube and Suzie suggested using the part of the song where there is less singing because it would fit better with our video. We did just that and got the 30 seconds of the song we needed. When it comes to production, I enjoyed the way I filmed my project and edited it. I think it really represents who I am and the passion I have for makeup and beauty. The filming was pretty smooth and enjoyable. Editing was also fun, after I figured out home to do transitions and how to make my commercial the right length. I wish I would have incorporated all the aspects that I had on my storyboard and in my head into my commercial. However, I had limited time and wasn't able to fully create the commercial I wanted to. However, I am still very proud of what I created and think it's really close to what I intended it to be.
